So I just got the Corsair Flash Survivor in 32GB capacity (Shows as 30.2GB in Windows) which debuted at CES 2008 in Las Vegas, NV. It retails for about $180 from mwave.com It comes packaged with Corsair dog-tags and a 3 inch USB extension cord. The Survivor is aptly named because of its sheer ruggedness and supposed invincibility

December 8th, 2008 No comments

JkDefrag is a disk defragmenter and optimizer for Windows 2000/2003/XP/Vista/2008/X64. Completely automatic and very easy to use, fast, low overhead, with several optimization strategies, and can handle floppies, USB disks, memory sticks, and anything else that looks like a disk to Windows. Included are a Windows version, a commandline version (for scheduling by the task scheduler or for use from administrator scripts) and a screensaver version!

Snapshot Forget Windows Defrag JKDefrag Rocks!

Best feature we used was the screensaver version, how often is your PC idle? well why not make use of that time with a defrag – we also notices huge performance benefits when playing games.

Remove annoying Start Up programs

November 10th, 2008 No comments

MSConfig is a built-in Windows feature which allows you to choose which applications start up when you PC boots, give it a try Click Start > Run > Type “msconfig.exe” in XP or search for “msconfig.exe” in Vista. But be careful only to use the StartUpTab unless you know what your doing.

Once you have chosen your start up items they become disabled, but sometimes these programs can be quite stubborn and re-enable them selves – especially Ad-Ware or Malware

This is where MSConfig Clean up helps it removes the items from msconfig so that they wont start again, it also gives you a bit more info about the start up program

thumb msconfig cleanup Remove annoying Start Up programs

MSConfig

MSConfig would be a perfect startup manager, if it allowed you not only to disable items, but to delete them forever. Unfortunately it does not do that. This is where MSConfig Cleanup comes in! It scans the startup configurations and allows you to remove any item that has been previously disabled via MSConfig.

This is another great application and can be downloaded here

CCleaner

CCleaner is a freeware system optimisation, privacy and cleaning tool. It removes unused files from your system – allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history. Additionally it contains a fully featured registry cleaner. But the best part is that it’s fast (normally taking less than a second to run).

Its called Unlocker and basically it can run in the background or it can be run manually so that when you delete a file it will let you know if any processes have a lock on that file or not.

SEO – Google webmaster tools

December 29th, 2007 No comments

I have recently designed a new website for Lascom Solutions (www.0870ver.co.uk) and have been trying to promote the site on Google. I was only aware of the Google addURL service to add a website to Google searches and didn’t know that if you have a Google account you can submit your site to their webmaster tools to monitor Google bot Crawls, keyword searches and page rankings!

Its a really slick user interface and gives a great insight in to what Google is doing with your website, putting more control back in the webmasters hands.

I also found that they like you to create an XML sitemap which can help improve page rankings(the sitemap for this site is here), I found this website which will automatically generate one for you, which you manually upload to your site. This blog uses a WordPress auto-sitemap plugin which generates one every time content changes!
